China Geared Up To Eliminate Online Sale Of Fake Products
November 27, 2015
China is known as the shrine of all things fake, be it gadgets or branded apparel. What is astonishing is how the resemblance of these products is uncanny to the genuine goods. But now the country is taking a stand against the sale of counterfeit products online with the help of cloud computing, big data and tighter rules on user identity.
The country which joined the World Trade Organization in 2001, has been striving to put a stop to the shipment and selling of these fake products as it is required to adhere to global standards on intellectual property rights.
China has established a roadmap of 3 years, whereby it will eradicate intellectual property rights infringement on the internet. This announcement was made via a posting by China’s cabinet on its official website on Saturday. According to the statement, China will promote the use of a ‘real-name system’ on the internet and electronic tags which would make it easier to track products and the identities of those who are responsible.
The posting also went on to mention that inter-regional law enforcement will be further strengthened and concentrate on sharing information with Beijing, Titanjin, Yangtze River Delta and other regions. What caught some attention with most is how China has singled out Walt Disney Co for a special trademark protection on Thursday.
China’s official Xinhua agency reported earlier that over 40% of products sold last year in China were fake or of low quality.
